Be Anxious for Nothing

I'm what you would call an overprotective mommy.

I didn't leave Selah in the church nursery until she was 5 months oldI make sure to cut every meal into tiny little pieces. I check on my 2 month old, Ellie, on the video monitor about every 5 minutes while she's napping.  Now, even the thought of leaving both girls with my sister so that my hubby and I can go on a date makes me crazy nervous.
I've realized recently though; there's a fine line between being "overprotective" and having down right anxiety about your kids. I have the latter.
Confession: I have been battling anxiety since my first daughter was born 2 years ago. It's been something that I'm reminded of every day- especially now that I have a newborn again. I'm reminded of how much growing I still have left to do as a mom. The Lord is daily revealing to me that this anxiety thing is not His will for me. It's not okay. It's not His will for me or any other mommies to live in the bondage of fear and anxiety.

Philippians 4:6-7

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Lately even logging onto Facebook is challenging because I am completely inundated with so much fear over the state of the world.

I was talking to my husband a few weeks ago after the terrorist attacks in Paris. I was saying that I was afraid of what the world our girls are going to grow up in is becoming. I just want them to be safe. My husband reminded me of something very important I somehow forgot.
My girls are God's girls too. He loves them even more that I do. I have to trust and believe that He hears my prayers and knows my heart. I have to trust that He is going to keep them safe. Fear is a direct result of not trusting God. I refuse to continue listening to the devil's lies.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct[a] your paths.

Mothers, we need to make the decision every day to trust the Lord with our babies, because they are His babies first and forever. His plans for them are good and not for disaster, to give them a bright future and hope. In these times of uncertainty on planet earth there is one thing I know for certain, God is still good and He is still on the throne!

Isaiah 41:10

10 Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

  1. Those are 3 of my favorite verses Sarah! You are not alone. I think worrying comes along with being a mommy. But your are right, there is a fine line. We can't let fear steal our joy and leave us cowering at home afraid to go anywhere. We have to know that God is in control, he is watching over our loved ones and no matter how hard we try we can't protect them from everything but we can trust them into his care. Great post! Sharing!
