Merry Early Christmas beautiful Mamas! I hope your spending the last week enjoying hot chocolate and eating cookies! After all calories don't exist this time of year. Amen? ;)
I've finished all the Christmas shopping over the weekend.. I'm so excited and I can't help but daydream about our first Christmas as a family in our apartment. This is the first Christmas where Evelynne is actually excited and understands gifts in fact she is so excited all week she has been snooping around the house knowing that mommy and daddy have presents around here somewhere and she's determined to find them and open them. All this present excitement had me in thought.
What if God is excitingly waiting for us to open our gifts?
You know those gifts, those dreams, those desires?
What if those are all gifts that God is waiting for us to open and play with?
It would make me so disappointed as a mom who has put so much thought and worked hard to buy my girls presents this year to have them come out of their rooms and pay no attention or show no desire to the gifts My husband and I had gotten them.
It wouldn't make sense to us if our kids said they didn't have time in their busy schedules to open their gifts. Or they were afraid to open their gifts because of what other people might think.
Have we been saying that to God? When He has given us gifts and passions for writing, speaking, crafting, and creativity all for His glory to see us living with purpose?
Have we been too busy with life to enjoy His gifts. Have we let life consume us is a way where running with a passion doesn't fit in the schedule of your day to day life?
And ladies, I'm not talking about Motherhood.. Yes, it's our main passion, our main ministry and we live and breathe it and love doing so. However, God doesn't want us to be just moms.. Because when we're just moms without passions and dreams we're moms without legend or destiny and we're raising our children that way too.
We can't afford to be just moms. We need to feed our souls with dreams and passions too! And I think that's a huge part to being a great mom. Letting your kids see you doing something YOU enjoy. YOU are passionate about. Letting your kids see YOU follow your dreams and if your kids are wise enough they will follow in your footsteps and be dream chasers too!
So Moms, as we approach this Christmas season and enter into the new year after that. I encourage you to journal and write down all the gifts, talents, dreams and passions you believe The Lord has placed in your heart. I want you to pray over all those things and ask God to give you wisdom with your time, and provide ways for you to have quiet time to work on them. Let 2016 be a year of fulfillment and big dreaming!
Much love to you this Holiday season!
XO-Heather Leigh
Yes! "We can't afford to be just moms. We need to feed our souls with dreams and passions too!" I love this post and will be passing it along.
ReplyDeleteChristmas is so much more fun with kids! I get excited at how excited they get and so look forward to their reactions when they open their gifts. What a great analogy. I admit I often feel guilty having outlets and admitting that I have giftings. Thanks for your encouragement to not be afraid to use them. I know that because I am using the giftings God has given me I appreciate being home with my children even more. It's just tricky finding the right balance. I want to fully invest myself in my family during this time when my kids are little but I know that won't be for long. When they are out of the house I don't want to find myself without purpose. I am going to write those dreams and passions that God has put on my heart and give them to God this coming new year and ask him to do with me what he will. Thanks for your challenging and inspiring words Heather!
