Why Try?

I am sure you've had that moment...the "why do I even try?" moment. The house is a mess no matter how many times you pick things up, you are overstressed, underpaid, under appreciated and you can never seem to get it all together...not even for a second. It gets hard to catch your breath. Your feelings get hurt and you wonder why you even put forth the effort if it doesn't seem to make a difference. All you want is a break! Ha! Then you remember that you are a mom, a wife, a full-time employee and a homemaker.

It is so easy to get caught up in the muck and mire. You just want to take a moment for a little pity party. God knows and He doesn't want us to stay floundering in all the mess. He eagerly awaits to give you steady footing.

He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.
Ps. 40:20

God's grace meets us in these places and He welcomes our weary hearts (and wounded egos).

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Matt. 11:28

There are days that our burdens feel so heavy  and we long to know why we should keep on trying. Why should I maintain a tidy home? Why should I keep investing in people when I am treated so poorly by them? The questions could go on and on!

In God's infinite wisdom and through His perfect Word, I've come to be reminded that it's not about the "why" but about the attitude in which it is done. We do what we do because God called us to. We maintain our home and relationships because they are His gifts to us. We should do all that we do because of His great love for us and our love for Him. So see? It's not about the why. We do it because we're called and we want to honor Him.

It then becomes about the "how" we do things.

For example:

Do life in love.

...and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life, and he will give you many years
Deut. 30:20a

Do life with a cheerful heart.

All the days of the oppressed are wretched, but the cheerful heart has a continual feast.
Prov. 15:15

Do ALL  things for the glory of God.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters
Col. 3:23

When we acknowledge the why and embrace it, it becomes a little easier to work on how we carry out the difficult things we need to do.

So...the next time that you are up against the "why try?" attitude,  adjust your thinking and let it become "I'll try..." attitude.
