See you April 2nd.

Happy Monday loves. Due to some thought my new co-partner Sarah and I have decided to take a 1 month break from Arrows and warriors to just seek after God's heart and get vision for what He wants us to do. We know He has so many amazing plans for A&W ministry and we want to seek after Him with all of our hearts so that we can see His big dreams come to pass. We'll be back April 2nd with a bigger vision, more encouragement and even some surprises!!! And until then you can follow me on my personal blog Blessed by arrows to get some extra encouragement.
 Much love- Heather & Sarah.

Where is Your Ministry?

I see you sitting there with your third cup of coffee, brain still foggy from sleep or lack there of, shoving the baby’s paci back in her mouth for the seventeenth time because let’s face it, it is far too early for crying. Your brain just can’t process it yet.

You log onto Facebook and the first thing you see is that your church is in need of volunteers for a special event coming up. Immediately guilt creeps in because you just can’t minister the way you used to. You think surely God must be disappointed in you because you just aren’t able to be on the worship team anymore or come in on a Saturday to help with your church’s food pantry.

Well mama, let me tell you something that it’s taken me almost three years to get through my head.
It’s okay.
This season with your babies is so fleeting. They are only tiny for so long.
These babies, your day to day activities, THESE are your ministries right now.
Every time you wipe a chocolate covered face, kiss an owie, read a story for the 400th time you are sowing into your babies’ lives.

Matthew 25:40New Living Translation (NLT)

40 “And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters,[a] you were doing it to me!"
Every time you smile at a cashier, tip your waitress a little more than they deserved, let someone pull in front of you in traffic-you’re a ministry.

Every time you pray for a person over Facebook you’ve never met, encourage a friend going through a rough time, take your babies to great grandma’s house to bring her some joy-you’re a ministry.

So mama’s remember, just because you stay at home doesn’t mean what you’re doing isn’t significant to the Kingdom. It’s the little everyday moments that end up making the biggest difference.

Your everyday life is your ministry, so who says being a stay at home mama doesn’t matter?

Joy Comes in the Morning

There are days as a mom that are super hard. You know the kind of day. It's the kind where you don't know who has cried more...you or them. The kind of day where work has been so stressful and all you want to do is come home, snuggle your sweet babes, and put your feet up. Unfortunately, you walk into a house in need of cleaning, dinner to be made, baths to be given, a husband to be listened to and laundry to be put away.

Lately, God has been bringing things to light that have caused me to reflect on various seasons in my life. My current season is by far my hardest but also my most joyous and rewarding of any up to this point. I'm reminded of the importance of savoring the little moments. It is okay to have the laundry sit in the basket a little longer and allow memories to be made. There have been some really long and exhausting nights and days, but God reminds me that joy comes in the morning. These dark moments of worry, stress and exhaustion are fleeting. He that is Light will cast out the darkness in order for us to live an abundant life...the life He has given.

So Momma, when you feel weary and find yourself crying more than your babes, know that every new tomorrow He gifts is a chance for renewal. Embrace the grace He offers. You were made for this.

Let them help.

I was cooking in the kitchen just wanting to get things done so I could go spend time with my kids and you know feel like a "good mom" and as I was cooking I looked down to my big helper who looked me in the eyes and I knew the question was coming.
I'm gonna be honest there are days when I do dread the
"can I help mama?" question. because sometimes I feel as though I can get things done way quicker without helping them help me. But I have the hardest time telling them no when it comes to help and that day was one of those days I chose to let her help me.
Our baking came and went and of course it took twice as long as it would have and finally we were able to  play.

Each night I try to remember to ask my girls what their favorite part of the day was and that night my three year old's  answer came to surprise me. I thought she was going to say her favorite part of the day was going to the store and buying her Rapunzel toy, or playing with it on the table with Mama. I even thought she was going to say eating cupcakes and watching TV I mean, who doesn't love that. But no. Instead she said
"My favorite part of the day was cooking with you mama, thanks for letting me help".

With tear filled eyes and a touched heart I couldn't help but think to myself that if I were to say no to her earlier and focused on just getting things done faster I would have missed out on my daughter's favorite part of the day. And that day I learned something.

The best part of my daughter's day is when I selflessly give myself to make her feel loved, heard and appreciated. To show her that her company is enjoyed and her help is appreciated. To show her that she's loved. That she's more important than a time limit.

Maybe my daughter doesn't want things, maybe she doesn't care what we're doing as far as playing with play-doh or legos. Maybe my daughter just wants me. Maybe she just wants my time more than anything. Maybe that's how I'll reach her. Maybe that's how I'll win her heart and maybe that's how I'll never lose it.

This is my encouragement and gentle push for you today my sisters and fellow mamas.
Let them help you in any job that's appropriate to help you with. It may be hard, stressful and even annoying at times but I've learned that the love that makes a difference. The love that wins the heart is the love that is most selfless and unseen.

No Longer a Slave to Fear

Turn this one up loud today, mammas!

Fear is tricky. It can play on every single anxiety we didn't know we had and amplify them until we're crippled.

I've had a few really icky encounters between strangers and myself or strangers and my kids lately. Some have put me in such a fearful state that I find myself becoming a hermit just so I won't have to worry about who is around my family. This is no way to live. It's certainly not how God has called me to live.

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind."
-2 Timothy 1:7

"The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? The Lord is with me; he is my helper."

-Psalm 118:6-7

I truly hate it when I find myself being afraid because I know it is outside of the plan God has for me. Yes, there is evil in this world. Yes, there are those who mean to do others harm. Yes, there will be times I'm not in control of what happens to me or my family. However, God is always in complete control. Always. You either believe this, or you don't. You can't believe that He's only over some situations and not others.

Bad is going to happen to us, friends. It's the result of living in a fallen world. But we have something amazing to cling to-the love and favor of the Lord as His children. We don't have to be afraid of what is around the corner. Instead, we can take the evil meant for us and allow God to use it in a way to bring glory to Him.

"You meant to hurt me, but God turned your evil into good to save the lives of many people, which is being done."
-Genesis 50:20

Speak this verse over your fear and anxiety and watch what God does with it. I'd love to hear your stories (mostly so I don't feel alone in my moments of fear....) in the comments below!

What makes me a confident mom.

A confident mom. I used to think a confident mom was a beautiful, fit, all together lovely and just perfect. Perfect house, perfect husband, perfect homemaking and was loved by everyone. She was an image I had in my head. The mom I was going to be and the mom I never was and because of that I would see myself and only see flaws.
I'd be on facebook/pinterest/instagram and without thought I'd slip into the trap. The trap of mistaking every mom on there is as perfect as the confident mom I had imaged in my head. And my girls were stuck with me. "They didn't deserve me for their mom" was a lie I repeated to myself many nights.
But God came to my rescue and saved me and forgave me for my self bullying. He saved me with these simple, freeing and powerful words.

"On your own, you will never be put together, you'll never get it perfect and on your own you'll never be confident. Let's try doing this Motherhood in Me and I'll show you what a confident mom is!"

I'm not confident because of me or who I am. In fact on my own I'm so clueless and scattered into a million pieces. (Yea, that woman who left her credit card on the starbucks counter? Me.) And until now I was a mom who was just surviving. And if I just survived that day somehow  was satisfied but completely not. I wanted more for me, I wanted more for my children and the fact I was just surviving meant I wasn't fulfilling my kingdom calling as a mom to it's fullest.
I would tell everyone who asked me how I was doing and not really realizing how doubtful I sounded I would say with bags under my eyes "It's just all about survival for me now."

And I honestly believe I'm not the only mom has ever felt that way because motherhood really is a tiring job that requires more than you on your own can give. It's constantly busy and most of the time demanding.  I remember waking up every morning just feeling tired and speaking that over my day. "Man, I'm so tired" I'm already ready for this day to be over".
Now, I know the secret to being a confident mom and like I said it's not me. It's nothing I do or have done but it's who I put my trust in. Moms the secret to being a confident mom is knowing who God is and who He is in you!
I've tried to do it on my own so many times.. But at the end of the day I was always exhausted, always doubted myself and I was never good enough. But praise God that He is enough. He sustains me.
What makes me a confident mom or just even a confident woman in general. It's knowing who I am in Christ and remembering His promises.
Not dwelling on the mistakes I've made but just trying my hardest every day and giving Him the glory for it and knowing that in Him I will not fail.
I think the biggest problems we have as moms is not that we're doing it wrong but we're putting all of motherhood on ourselves which runs us dry. But God wants to be our help.
So, here are some ways I find my confidence in God and how I'm confident in Him.
I try to meet with Him every morning// It is my goal every morning to not let my kids beat me up. I can't even tell you the difference it makes in my life daily. And if somehow I don't get up that morning I spend time with Him at night because I believe that's when the day really starts :)
I remember scripture//  There is so much good stuff for us in there to dwell on and remember. It's our sword ladies and if we don't know how to use it how will we use it in times of trouble?
Speak life over your day// It's so true that life and death are in the power of your tongue. So speak life over your day even when it feels like your day is off to a bad start.speak life! God has been challenging me to remember that He gives me rest. So, I try to remember to speak God's strength over my day.

Mama, fear not.

Fear.. My most hated word because it has caused me so much heartache, anxiety and brokenness for what? Something that never came to pass.

This world clings tightly to fear. You see it's everywhere. On TV, the news, politics and the list can go on and on. Can I give you one word of advice?

Fear comes, you can't stop it from coming. But it's what you do with it that matters. It's you're choice to live with it or not.

Did you know that there are 365 Bible verses about fear & anxiety in the bible? It's because God knew it would be our greatest struggle here on earth because it's Satan's only weapon to use against us. Not only that but fear is the only thing that can keep us from God, knowing Him and fulfilling His plan for our lives and it has to end and some even believe fear is a natural and even harmless emotion but it is so far from harmless and fear can come in different ways and all of it is harmful.

It comes in the form of anxiety, it comes in the form of self-worth or lack there of, it comes in the form of shyness and nervousness and it even comes in the form of love which is most deceiving. Sometimes we want to hold onto our children a bit longer because tomorrow is not promised or we're afraid of loosing them.  It's a form of fear. We're afraid to raise our children in this world because of everything going on around it, we're afraid to send them to schools, or send them on missions trips because we're afraid of loosing them and I'm not saying cautiousness is fear.. Because that is not. There's a difference. Caution is protecting them from danger and fear is holding back because of fear of what may happen. Fear cages and we're not meant to be caged. We're not meant to be tamed.
Lisa Bevere said one of my favorite quotes saying "God didn't save us to tame us" We're not meant to be tamed but we're meant to be wild and free.

Fear is an emotion that is not an option for us Daughters of God born for such a time as this to raise up a generation that's fearless.  I believe our children are the generation that will praise Jesus, seek after His heart and live an offensive lifestyle for the sake of Christ.. I want my daughters to be Lioness' to know who they are in Christ and knowing His perfect love. But for them to know who they are, for them to be fearless and to be free from the bondage of the world they must first see that in me! I must break the worldly habits that my generation before past onto me so that she will only know Christ and His perfect love.

How do I do that?  Sometimes at night before bed my oldest love Evelynne who's three years old sometimes tells me she's scared to go to bed.. I know how that feels because I have struggled with that too. Especially with Leon being gone most nights it can be easy to let a fearful imagination take place in my mind. But what I have learned to do is fight back and not just fight back but fight from victory and not for it. We already have the victory in Christ because He destroyed the sting of death and took back hell's victory when He took it to His grave when He died at the cross and to seal the deal He rose three days later! We don't fight for victory but from it. How do we do that? We powerfully speak it with faith and believe.

When my daughter comes to me telling me she's scared because there is no age limit that the enemy preys on therefore it's never too early to give them swords and teach them to fight. I go down to her level, look her in the eye and tell her "Evie, what does God tell us about fear? God has not given us the spirit of fear but of power, love and peace! His love that He has already given us casts out all fear in Jesus' Name!"  We're a family that fights back with swords (Being the bible) For it is the most powerful weapon there is.

So Mamas, fear not.
Whoever wins the election come November, fear not.
Don't hold your children with fear of loosing them. Hold with with promise that God has a plan for their life that is full of hope.
Don't end your day with the fear of you being a bad mom but know that God's strength is made perfect in weakness.
It's time we stop letting fear rule our emotions, identities and how we mother but it's time we unleash the lionesses  inside us and show the devil who has the bigger sword.

Every Heartbeat

The last few weeks have held a lot of emotional elements. There have been some really great things, such as my mom officially deciding to make the move near us (we're currently 500 miles apart), new babies, and personal achievements. Likewise, there have been many heartbreaking things to make my prayer list.

Most recently, I've become aware of the loss of two young children, ages 10 and 4. While I don't know these two families personally, I am close to those who do...and as a fellow mother, my heart cannot help but grieve. I have been overwhelmed with helplessness as I pray for these families and those who have been touched by these little lives.

As I've prayed for their healing and peace, God has used this time to remind me of just how short and precious our time is with our little ones. Whether they go home sooner than we think is fair or they leave our homes to start their new, adult lives, our time is so fleeting. My heart aches at the thought.

He has reminded me that I am to savor every moment and take advantage of every opportunity to show my children the love of Christ. My number one objective aside from meeting their physical needs, is to love them with a fierceness that points them to God. It is my job to love them like Jesus.

As much as I long to hold them close to me and sprinkle them with a little "never grow up" pixie dust, I know that is not my role. God has called me to love and raise my children for as long as He sees fit to keep them with me. This is hard to stomach, but God has gently reminded me that my children are not "mine". He has granted me the humbling honor of being their mother, but my children are His. They are His gift to me. They are His gift to world in the sense that they have a Kingdom oriented purpose to fulfill.

I remember the dark days of our infertility and wondered if God would ever grant the desire of my heart. I simply wanted to become a mother. I did not realize what that would truly entail. In the days before their arrival I would anxiously await the next appointment that would afford me the opportunity to hear their precious heartbeats. I always felt better after hearing the fast paced gallop of their beating hearts. It held me over from one appointment to the next.

Now, my heart goes walking before me and beside me daily as I see my toddler explore the world around her. My heart sings as it beats the breathes of my son's sweet slumber. I am grateful in a way that I could never comprehend until them.

God is good.

While I do not always understand the reason behind things happening I do believe that He good.  I've seen so many lives come to know Christ as their Savior through such tragic losses. Some how, out of the ashes comes beauty.

These times remind me to hug my babes a little tighter, love them that much more fiercely, pray for them continually, and cherish every heartbeat.

"As a mother, my job is to take care of the possible and trust God with the impossible."

You are accepted.

"So many of us have believed that we need to labor and perform for identity, so that we might be accepted. But in the Kingdom, we start off accepted.
- Beni Johnson.

We all get these pictures and ideas of what we can do to be accepted. Maybe not as just a mom but also a Daughter, wife and friend or even as a blogger. I know as a recovered  people pleaser I certainly had those lists of what I needed to do to earn love and acceptance and I still find myself doing that from time to time but God in His mercies and Fathership reminds me often saying "Acceptance, it's already yours so stop doing all these things to get it".

Sometimes we think that maybe I have to wake up early in the morning  before the kids so that God will love me more. Maybe I should pray over more people so that God will favor me.
Or I should lose/gain weight or work harder at my homemaking so that my husband might love me.

Or maybe if I didn't do ___ as often I'd be a better mom and my kids would love me.
Or maybe if I had all these new brands, or a bigger and nicer house or got more creative with my website I'd get more followers.

All these and more have crossed through my mind more than once in my lifetime and sometimes they still do but it shouldn't.

My worth, my identity and my acceptance should belong to Jesus and only Jesus.
Not in my home, not in my husband, not in my children, not in all the blessings God has given me as a daughter and certainly not in followers but in only Christ.

We labor, we raise our children, we love our husbands and we seek first the Kingdom of God not so that we might be loved.. We do those things because we already are loved.

We love because he first loved us. - 1 John 4:19

"Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God."
- Romans 15:7

Mamas. Sisters. Friends. I encourage you today to do your best. To spend time with Jesus. To thrive. But not so that Jesus might love you more Because He can't possibly love you anymore or any less than He does now. right now. Just as you are. I encourage you to do these things not to be loved but because you already are.

To the mom of a strong-willed child.

You're the mom who sometimes has to carry her child through the grocery store kicking and screaming.

Or leaving story time early because your kid didn't want to do everything the other preschoolers were doing.

You're the mom who is still potty training your toddler after months of trying and it's still not 100% succeeded yet because your toddler just wants their own way.

You're the mom who sometimes feels invisible or disrespected when you tell your toddler not to do something for the twentieth time and they do it anyway.

Or they like to color outside the lines because they like to make it their own.

You're the mom who often gets looks and judgment on a daily basis. You get advice that you didn't ask for, and you often wonder if you're doing it right and if you're truly cut out for this mom stuff.

You're the mom who often has to prepare herself when you tell your kid "no"

I get it! Because I'm there.

I have two beautiful girls both 3 and 1. My three year old is strong-willed in a way to where she has to do everything herself such as open things, stir the batter, open her door and brush her teeth. She sets herself up for success and doesn't ask for help unless she absolutely has no other choice and she absolutely hates the word no.. If I were to tell her no usually two things happen she either gets really upset or she works her way around and tries to get me to say yes.

My one year old on the other hand would be my strong willed wanderer.  She likes to explore without limits and mommy saying "no" She is the one who I have to often remove from situations because she is pulling things off shelves or I have to put her in the pack in play because she won't stop touching the DVD player after telling her "no" twenty times.

I often get looks when I go out. I get the looks  from people without kids, I get looks of compassion and the looks of "Go mom!"

I get comments such as "You have double the trouble" or "Looks like double the headache to me" and it breaks my heart that my children have to hear such a rude comment from a stranger when to me they are my world. They are my blessings and they are my mission and purpose.

I'm the mother of two strong-willed children.. And to be honest previously I didn't enjoy that trait at all! I sometimes wished they would give in to my will without a fight.  I still do at times but as I watch them and as The Lord shows me His Kingdom through these little ones I'm realizing just how much of a Kingdom trait a strong personality is. Because they're go getters, dream chasers, and they don't care about what people think of them (obviously) but they're gonna do what they're gonna do and put up a fight if you tried to stop them. Now, imagine that personality trait being used for The Kingdom's purpose? I know! Talk about stomping on hell for a living.

Of course, our children require guidance. They require extra patience. They require strong leaders (parents) who gently, but firmly, remind them that they still have much to learn -- that their way is not always the best way. They require parents who can teach them how to channel that strong will into useful pursuits, which sometimes seems daunting in and of itself. But it is such a blessing to raise them. Because we get to see it all.

So Mamas, Take joy in your strong-willed babe.. I know it's hard and in this you are receiving great patience. But your child is a world changer. You're child is the influence of his or her generation. They will make a difference in this world and they will be the generation that shows the face of Jesus.

God has called you to this. He's qualified you for this purpose and you are doing an amazing job. You are doing one of the greatest things there is for the Kingdom of God. Raising a child and guiding Him in the way they should go because most of the time our greatest kingdom work isn't in what we do but with who we raise. And our strong-willed children have much to bring.
